Research Interests
My current research interests involve the followings, all related to the field of geographic information science and geoinformatics:
- Three-dimensional GIS: Geospatial techniques in three-dimensional (3D) model development, automation, and its integration with sensor data for smart city applications.
- Geo-spatial humanity and historical GIS: The use of geospatial information technologies in encoding, analyzing, and understanding spatiotemporal patterns and correlations between geographic phenomena.
- Applications of GIS/remote sensing: The use of GIS and remote sensing as decision support tools in issues concerning land use/cover changes, public health, and travel behaviors of people in built environments.
To advance the theories, tools, and applications in these three main research directions, my research generally investigates the various use of artificial intelligence tools, including machine learning, (spatial) ontology, natural language processing, and knowledge system, in facilitating data fusion for advancing understanding of the geographic patterns.
